Pel lexicon

Pelicans, (what we call Star Island staff), speak what seems to be “in code” sometimes.  We don’t always know we’re doing it, and sometimes we have a hard time talking about Star Island in a way that mainland folks will understand.  This is not new, but it is constantly changing.  I decided to start work on a Pel lexicon to help break down some of the language barriers between Pelicans and non-Pelicans.  Inspired by the Oxford English Dictionary, please help us out in figuring out the first known usage and full definitions!

You can find the work-in-progress Pel Lexicon here.  This past summer we had done a lot of brainstorming, and Sumar Maji did a lot of note taking  but I have since forgotten many of the specifics, so I started with just two words, hoping that crowd-sourcing it would be more fun anyhow.  That’s where you come in.  Let me know your favorite Star Island slang, its definition and if possible the first known usage.

Email Melissa with edits and additions.

Thank you!
